My air conditioning unit exploded the other day and I had to buy a
new one. I had no idea how much one should cost. The AC guy I had used before
quoted a 4 ton unit at $1800. My concern was I was paying too much.
I did some research online. It seems every AC seller I looked at
online only wanted me to fill out information to get quotes later on. Well, in
100 degree weather, I wasn't interested in waiting around. Thru Internet forum
sites I found people usually quoting around $2200 for this size of replacement.
These people were either from Chicago or New York. I'm from South Texas. So, I
figured I didn't pay too, too much.
Later on I did speak with an acquaintance of mine who does
estimation work for Spawglass,
a large construction company. He stated, with labor this price was about right.
Good! Glad I didn't get overcharged.
Of course, everyone I know told me how they knew someone who could
do it for so much less. These people are so annoying. No matter what I spend
and for what, they always say how they could have or did get a better deal. I
have two things to say about this. It cost more for quality work and too many
people are bold face liars.
